When we are hurting, it is easy to believe that the way we feel today is the way we will always feel. But pain is not prophecy. What happened yesterday does not get to decide what God can do tomorrow. You may still remember. You may still have questions. You may still feel the tenderness of what happened. But none of that means God has stopped working. Healing often begins long before we realize it. It happens when you pray again after disappointment. When you trust again after betrayal. When you hope again after loss. When you get up and keep moving even though part of you wanted to stay down. When you discover that you can remember what happened without allowing it to control your entire day. Those moments matter. They are signs that pain is losing its grip and God is restoring your strength. As this first week of October comes to a close, do not measure your healing only by what still hurts. Look at how God has kept you. Look at how He has strengthened you. Look at the prayers you are still praying. Look at the hope that is still alive inside you. You are still here. God is still close. Healing is still happening. And your future is still in His hands. The hurt was real. But so is the Healer. Hurt doesn’t win.
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
Lord,
Thank You for staying close to me through every season of hurt.
Thank You for carrying me when I did not realize I was being carried and strengthening me when I did not feel strong. Help me recognize the healing that has already begun. Keep me from allowing yesterday’s pain to become tomorrow’s expectation. Restore my hope. Renew my strength. Heal the places that are still tender. As I enter the weekend, help me rest in the assurance that my future is not controlled by what hurt me. My life is still in Your hands. You are close. You are healing. And You are not finished with me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
