Sometimes we become so good at functioning that people never realize we are hurting. We show up. We smile. We work. We serve. We take care of everybody else. And when someone asks how we are doing, we automatically say, “I’m fine.” But God sees beyond fine. He sees the disappointment underneath the smile. He knows about the conversation you keep replaying. He sees the grief you have learned to carry quietly. He knows the relationship that changed, the prayer that still feels unanswered, the betrayal you have tried to move past, and the loss you rarely talk about anymore.
And God is not asking you to pretend with Him. Healing requires honesty. There is freedom in saying: “Lord, this hurt me.” “Lord, I am disappointed.” “Lord, I don’t understand.” “Lord, I thought I would be further along by now.” That is not weak faith. That is relationship. God already knows what is in your heart. Prayer simply opens the door for you to stop carrying it alone. You do not have to clean up your emotions before entering God’s presence.
Bring the tears. Bring the anger. Bring the confusion. Bring the disappointment. Bring the truth. God can handle your honesty. And sometimes the first step toward healing is finally admitting that something still hurts.
“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”
Psalm 62:8 (NIV)
Lord,
Today I choose honesty. You already know every place where I am hurting, disappointed, confused, or afraid. Help me stop hiding behind strength when my heart needs Your care. Give me courage to pour out what I have been carrying. Meet me with compassion instead of condemnation. Heal the places I have tried to ignore, and remind me that I never have to pretend in Your presence. I trust You with the truth of my heart.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
