Don’t Assign Value

While You Wait Wednesday

Here’s something our brains do without us even noticing: they assess things fast. We take in a situation, size it up, and assign it a value, almost instantly. It’s how we make quick decisions and keep from getting overwhelmed by every little thing we encounter.

But there’s a catch. When we assign value, we’re usually doing it based on what we already know, what we’ve experienced, what we’re afraid of. Not necessarily what God says is true.

This week, Dr. Lael walks through a simple but convicting idea: be careful how you assign value to people and situations. We tell ourselves stories to protect our hearts. “If I love that person, I could get hurt.” And maybe that’s true. But God’s instruction is still to love each other, even when it’s risky.

It’s a short watch, but it’s the kind of thing that’s worth sitting with for longer than two minutes.
