the hope chest
Waiting can feel empty, but our blog is designed like a hope chest for this season. It’s a place to intentionally gather and store spiritual provisions. Inside, discover powerful scripture paired with actionable steps – reflections meant to be kept close. Let each visit help you fill your waiting time by recentering on God's presence, stocking up on renewed hope, and finding clear direction.
When we say we will give sacrificially, we mean giving beyond what is comfortable, convenient, or expected. Sacrificial giving is an act of faith, trust, and love ❤️—offering not just from our excess, but from a place of deep conviction. It is an acknowledgment that everything we have belongs to God ✨ and that we are merely stewards of His blessings.
But I wonder—is sacrificial giving truly God’s idea of giving? 🤔 Or have we given so casually, so routinely, that we have yet to experience what it means to give as God gave? Have we truly given in a way that reflects the depth of His sacrifice for us?
During this Lenten season ✝️, as we prepare our hearts for Easter, let us remember that God gave His Son—not out of convenience, not from His abundance, but as the ultimate sacrifice. This is the standard of sacrificial giving. It is love poured out, costly yet given freely, without hesitation.
📖 Scripture:
📜 Mark 12:43-44 – “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
🙏 Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the ultimate giver, for providing all that we need, and for showing us the greatest act of sacrifice through Jesus. ✝️ Teach us to give not just from our excess, but from a place of faith and trust in You. May our giving be an act of worship, reflecting our love and devotion to You. Help us to surrender what we hold tightly, knowing that You are our provider. 💜 Let our generosity be a testimony of Your goodness and grace. In this Lenten season, help us reflect on Your sacrificial love and challenge us to give in a way that honors the depth of what You have given for us. Amen.
🎯 Action Item:
📅 This week, reflect on what true sacrificial giving means to you. Ask yourself: Have I ever given in a way that required deep trust in God? Consider one way you can give sacrificially—whether through your finances 💰, time ⏳, service 🤝, or encouragement 💬. Give joyfully and wholeheartedly, trusting that God will multiply your offering for His glory.
Blessings,
Dr. Melville✨
