Welcome HOPErs!

Hi there, and welcome to While You Wait Ministries. Before you scroll to the next thing, take a breath. Your waiting season is not wasted time—it's a divine classroom where God is preparing you for what's ahead. Here, we gather to remember that hope still works, healing still happens, and you're not waiting alone.
You're right where you're meant to be. Let's wait well together.

With love and expectancy,
Rev. Dr. Lael C. Melville

You Can Be Soft and Strong at the Same Time

While You Wait Wednesday | The Healing Space Series | March 2026

Somewhere along the way, we started believing that feeling things deeply was the opposite of being strong. That if we let ourselves be tender, we’d lose our footing. But what if that’s exactly backwards?

In this week’s While You Wait Wednesday, Dr. Lael brings a message that cuts right to the heart of what healing actually looks like: you don’t have to choose between being open and being grounded. You were never meant to.

“Softness is not weakness — it’s emotional wisdom. Strength is not hardness — it’s anchored in God.” — Dr. Lael C. Melville

There’s something quietly radical about that. We live in a world that rewards toughness — that tells us to keep moving, stay productive, don’t let them see you sweat. And then we wonder why the healing feels so slow. Why we’re still carrying things we thought we’d let go of years ago.

The Healing Space isn’t about speeding up your recovery or performing wholeness before you feel it. It’s about creating room for both the tenderness and the courage to exist in you at the same time. Because they’re not opposites. They’re partners.

Joshua 1:9 doesn’t say “be fearless.” It says be strong and courageous — which implies there is something to be afraid of, something that takes real effort to face. God’s command to courage only makes sense in the presence of real struggle. He’s not asking you to pretend it doesn’t hurt. He’s offering to be with you while it does.

That’s what this season is really about. A healing space isn’t a place where pain disappears — it’s a place where you’re finally safe enough to feel it. Safe enough to stay open. Safe enough to keep your roots down while the wind moves through.

Your waiting season is doing something in you. Not to punish you, not to delay your life — but to grow the kind of depth that can hold both joy and grief, both softness and resolve. That’s not weakness being worked out of you. That’s wholeness being worked into you.

So this week, let the prayer be simple. Not a prayer for things to change, but a prayer to be changed by them. To be soft enough to feel deeply and strong enough to keep going — knowing God is with you in every step of it.

This Week’s Declaration
Say this out loud — and come back to it whenever the wait feels heavy:
“I am soft and strong in God, for God is with me while I wait.”
