Sometimes the hardest part of moving forward is not the future. It is releasing the past. We keep replaying what happened. What if I had made a different decision? What if they had stayed? What if I had started sooner? What if that opportunity had worked out? But “what if” cannot restore yesterday. And regret cannot build tomorrow. There comes a moment in healing when God invites you to turn your face forward. Not because yesterday did not matter.
Not because you did not learn from it. But because God still has somewhere for you to go. Restoration requires room for something new. If your hands remain tightly wrapped around what should have been, you may struggle to receive what God says can still be. Your future may not look exactly like the one you originally imagined. It may be different. But different does not mean less. God can still surprise you. God can still open doors.
God can still restore joy. God can still give purpose to what you thought was wasted. You are allowed to look forward again. Yesterday had its chapter. Today has grace. And tomorrow still belongs to God.
“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten…”
Joel 2:25 (NIV)
Lord,
Help me release my grip on what should have been. Free me from regret, comparison, and constantly replaying the past. Thank You for everything yesterday taught me, but do not allow yesterday to imprison me. Turn my heart toward what You are doing now. Give me expectation for what is ahead. Open my eyes to new possibilities. And give me courage to believe that different can still be beautiful when You are leading me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
