Welcome to Our Blog

Welcome HOPErs!

Hi there, and welcome to While You Wait Ministries. Before you scroll to the next thing, take a breath. Your waiting season is not wasted time—it's a divine classroom where God is preparing you for what's ahead. Here, we gather to remember that hope still works, healing still happens, and you're not waiting alone.
You're right where you're meant to be. Let's wait well together.

With love and expectancy,
Rev. Dr. Lael C. Melville

You Don’t Have to Hold It Together to Be Covered

A diverse group of women sitting together in a warm, cozy living room, offering emotional support and prayer, representing community care and God’s nurturing love.

Maybe you’ve been trying to hold it together for a while now.

Not because things are fine. But because that’s what you do. You keep showing up, keep praying, keep moving. And somewhere underneath all of that, there’s something heavy you haven’t put down yet.

Naomi knows that place.

She came home from Moab having lost everything. Her husband. Her sons. Her plans. And she didn’t dress it up. She walked into Bethlehem and said out loud: don’t call me Naomi. Call me Mara. Call me bitter. I went out full and came back empty.

That is one of the most honest moments in scripture. And here’s what’s remarkable about it: God was already covering her before anything changed. Before Ruth found the field. Before Boaz noticed her. Before a single thing was restored. The cover came first.

That’s who God is.

Isaiah 66:13 says: “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.”

Think about what that looks like. A mother doesn’t wait until the child has calmed down to sit with them. She doesn’t require the child to explain themselves or clean up their emotions first. She moves toward them. She is present, attentive, close. She comforts in the middle of the mess, not after it.

That is the God who is with you today.

And Psalm 62:8 gives you the invitation: “Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us.”

Not your cleaned-up version. Not your composed, faith-filled, got-it-together version. Your heart. The actual one. The tired one. The confused one. The one that has questions it hasn’t said out loud yet.

Pour it out. He can hold it.

You don’t have to have it together to be covered. You just have to come.

Watch This Week’s Teaching

If this is meeting you somewhere real, Dr. Lael goes deeper in this week’s While You Wait Wednesday video. She walks through what it means to be covered before anything changes and why you don’t have to clean yourself up before you come to God.

Watch it here

Scripture

“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” — Isaiah 66:13

“Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us.” — Psalm 62:8

Prayer

Father, I’ve been holding a lot. Some of it I haven’t even named yet. You already know it. Meet me here today, not after I’ve figured it out, not after things have changed. Right here. I’m pouring out what I have and trusting that You are enough to hold it. Amen.

One Thing for Today

Write down one thing you’ve been carrying that you haven’t said out loud yet. It doesn’t have to be a full sentence. A word works. A feeling works. Then say it to God. That’s pouring it out. That’s where the cover starts.

Your Next Step

If this met you somewhere real today, there is a place to keep going.

The HOPErs Community is walking through Cover and Care all month long and it’s free to join. Inside you’ll find daily Prayer and Perspective, While You Wait Wednesday teachings from Dr. Lael, and a community of women who are done pretending they have it all together.

Come as you are. The door is open.
